Neno DHO gets 3-star rating
Ministry of Health Quality Management Department has awarded Neno District Health Office (DHO) a three-star quality rating for its improved health service delivery.
Neno District medical officer Dr. Albert Chafunya in an interview on Monday described the rating as a major milestone in the district’s pursuit for quality healthcare delivery.

“In Malawi, few districts have attained a three-star rating. This accolade is encouraging as it demonstrates that, as a district, we are performing well in terms of quality healthcare provision,” he said.
Chafunya attributed the achievement to strong leadership under the district’s director of health and social services Dr. Enoch Ndarama and the dedication of healthcare workers across the district.
He also acknowledged Partners in Health’s role in the health sector, saying its support is instrumental in the success.
Neno District Hospital Advisory Committee chairperson Leonard Mphidza expressed satisfaction with the progress made.
“Reaching three stars is a big achievement. It shows what can be accomplished when hospital management and the community work together,” he said.
However, Mphidza acknowledged persistent challenges, particularly shortages of essential drugs.
Neno District Council principal human resource officer Samuel Tanaka also hailed the achievement.
“Getting a three-star rating is a major achievement, but my appeal is that we should not become complacent,” he said.
The event also honoured outstanding performance by individual health facilities and departments.
The quality rating is based on international standards used globally to assess the performance and service delivery of health facilities.
